The temptation to mythologize Bill Fay is strong; for decades, he was both prolific and underappreciated. Over nearly 25 years, Fay’s status as an unsung hero has slowly shifted, with each new album gaining praise from artists like Jeff Tweedy, Kevin Morby, Adam Granduciel, and Julia Jacklin.

The Bill Fay Group stands out as Fay’s most significant collaboration, where he records as part of a larger ensemble, creating a grander sonic landscape that complements his understated style. Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow combines elements of early rock, jazz improvisation, and Fay’s folk influences.

Recorded between 1978 and 1981, Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow had a patchy release history. It wasn’t released until 2005 on CD, with limited streaming availability and no vinyl. A 2006 vinyl reissue featured a truncated tracklist with nine missing songs. Now, the full album is available worldwide, streaming and pressed to double vinyl, featuring all 22 original tracks and rare photos from the recording sessions.

According to Gary Smith and Rauf Galip, from the forthcoming album notes:
“We chose five songs to record—Life, Spiritual Mansions, Cosmic Boxer, Strange Stairway, and Isles of Sleep—across two studio sessions, and sent them out for a record deal. But with Punk in the record labels’ ears, no deal came through.

Now, Dead Oceans, believing in Bill’s music, is re-releasing Tomorrow. "For the fourth side of the vinyl, we’ve been digging through old boxes, finding unreleased tracks on CDRs and cassettes."
