The black spiritual saxophonist Eizo Lawrence, whose early work with Presutige in the 70's has been reevaluated, is now back with his first release for High Note Records! In the 70's he was part of the Electric Miles Band and played with artists such as Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw. Lawrence has also performed with soul greats such as Roberta Flack and Earth, Wind & Fire. His performances are in the direct lineage of Coltrane, and he is a hardcore black spiritualist. In recent years, his live performance at the NY Jazz Standard in 2011 was released on Sunnyside, which brought him into the limelight. The world view of the work is unwavering. From the original "La Bossa," which is based on the chord progression of the standard "Blue Bossa," it is a true Eizo Lawrence tune. Benito Gonzalez, who has also played piano in Kenny Garrett's group for many years, showed a performance in the McCoy-Tyner vein, supporting the body heavily with his modal piano. At the same time, Lawrence's mixing of Brazilian, African, and Indian sounds with 60's-style modal jazz is also typical of him.M7, titled "African Chant," features voices, while M5 creates a psychedelic world with a guitar sound similar to a sitar, inviting the listener into an ethnic world. Everything about this music is healing music. Born in 1953, Lawrence is 62 years old at the time of recording this album. This is a piece of music that shows the age of an artist who has found and lived by a single line of expression.
