Winter 2023, observing a fresh, heavily tracked powder bowl in the American West from a high-altitude chairlift—the way the sun dramatically illuminated the massive snowdrifts and the tiny, colorful figures navigating the terrain.

The wide, horizontal format was chosen to emphasize the expansive nature of the slope.

The texture of the snow was created using extremely thick acrylic gel and white oil, applied with a flexible, wide trowel in sweeping, overlapping horizontal motions to capture the chaotic, heavy look of deep powder.

The vibrant skiers were placed in a scattered, intentional pattern using miniature brushes and pure, undiluted pigments to inject movement and human scale into the monumental white terrain.

The technique of placing them on the shadowed side of the ridges enhances the 3D effect of the snow.
