I first painted Jackie years ago—a large-scale, hyperrealistic image of her, celebrating her iconic face. Eventually, I grew dissatisfied with all things iconic. So, while working on my latest collection, I felt the need to express this dissatisfaction. Nobody cares about icons anymore, do they? So why should I? After all, everything is for sale. That’s not a new concept, but I wanted to give it a fresh twist by mixing a real-life person with plastic Pop Art elements, truly carefree of what the result might be. I just wanted to do it. And I simply did.
