‘Reflections on design’

A relatively new design magazine from the people behind Port and edited by writer-curator Deyan Sudjic, you may remember Anima first popping up as a slick sister supplement to Port a few seasons ago, coinciding with Milan’s Salone del Mobile. It’s now a standalone title, exploring ‘what things mean, as well as how they look’.

Featuring two distinct covers to choose from—minimalist, pastel pink typography against a silver background, or Lella and Massimo Vignelli’s colourful, stackable cups—this fourth issue is dedicated to ‘institutions, legacies and the individuals who shape how design is seen, understood and remembered.’

Milan’s Triennale Design Museum is amongst the trailblazing institutions highlighted inside, with a spotlight on two retrospectives on display during Milan Design Week: ‘A Language of Clarity’, a comprehensive look at the prolific and expansive careers of the Vignellis—widely lauded as ‘two of Italy’s most admired designers from the generation that emerged from the ruins of World War II’—and, ‘Alphabet’, a survey of the work of iconic British design duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.

Elsewhere, find profiles of London-based object and furniture designer Andu Masebo, Foundation Cartier director Chris Dercon, and British-Caribbean menswear designer Bianca Saunders, alongside features spanning a bid by The National Trust to acquire Richard and Su Rogers’ Modernist ‘Wimbledon House’, the two sides of ‘AI slop’, and the late Martin Parr’s reckoning with ‘everyday systems’.
